Description
The Geolux FX100 is a high-precision, non-contact flow monitoring instrument that measures surface water velocity, water level, and flow discharge (flow rate) without touching the water. The sensor is mounted above a river, channel, or drain, eliminating the need for submerged equipment and significantly reducing maintenance requirements and the risk of damage from debris, sediment, corrosion, or flooding.
The FX100 incorporates two independent radar sensors:
Surface Velocity Measurement – Surface velocity is measured using a 60 GHz FMCW (Frequency-Modulated Continuous Wave) radar. The radar beam is directed toward the water surface at a 60° angle and measures the frequency shift of the reflected signal caused by moving water. Advanced signal processing generates a range-Doppler map, allowing the instrument to accurately determine the velocity of the water surface while distinguishing reflections from different distances. This results in highly reliable measurements even during rainfall or in complex hydraulic conditions.
Water Level Measurement – A dedicated 77-81 GHz FMCW level radar independently measures the distance to the water surface. By comparing transmitted and reflected radar frequencies, the FX100 calculates water level with millimetre-level precision. Since the technology is radar-based, measurements are unaffected by air temperature, humidity, or other environmental conditions.
Superior Performance Compared to Conventional Doppler Sensors – Unlike conventional Doppler radar flow meters, FMCW radar technology can separate reflections from different targets at different distances. This allows the FX100 to distinguish between rainfall and the actual water surface, reducing false readings during wet weather events. Traditional Doppler systems typically rely on filtering algorithms to compensate for this effect.
