Salinity & Groundwater impact assessment – 30 years on
Presenters:
This webinar traced salinity from its origins through to today’s most advanced modelling and management tools. We explored how salinity occurs, its history across Victoria (including the Northern Victorian deep leads), and key insights from the State Observation Bore Network and investigations spanning the 1960s to the 2000s.
Mark shared an update on current groundwater and salinity conditions, plus we tool a look at next-generation forecasting approaches such as IRF (Pastas/Hydrosight), MODFLOW 6, FEFLOW, ENSI uncertainty analysis with spatial/temporal P5–P95 assessments.
The webinar concluded with a practical overview of modern salinity management—from mid-1990s irrigation and resource shifts to MDBA EC trading, catchment modelling, and adaptive tools like trigger response action plans.
