Feed them and they will remediate: Lessons from chlorinated solvent sites
Presenters:
Historical dry-cleaning operations at two commercial laundries in Victoria left a legacy of on-site and off-site contamination, with chlorinated solvents and petroleum hydrocarbons identified as the primary contaminants of potential concern (COPCs).
Comparable contamination issues were also identified at a former Victorian carpet manufacturing facility, where chlorinated solvents had been used and fuels stored and distributed on site.
A fourth Victorian site displayed a similar contamination profile associated with historical metal product fabrication and petroleum storage and distribution activities.
We are joined by Dr Lyndon Bell and Tim Sullivan from JBS&G (a Geosyntec Company) and they shared lessons learned from the environmental assessment and remediation of four case study sites. Drawing on their experience from numerous similar projects, the webinar highlighted the key challenges, investigation strategies, remediation approaches, including bioremediation, and practical insights for managing complex chlorinated solvent and petroleum hydrocarbon contamination.
