Dr Victoria McKay from LGI Ltd presented on landfill gas emissions, which contribute around 13 million tonnes of CO₂-e annually in Australia through the decomposition of organic waste in landfills.

The session explored how landfill gas extraction systems are designed, how they perform, and the funding and carbon credit mechanisms that can make these systems both environmentally beneficial and economically viable for landfill operators. The webinar also discussed key barriers that have slowed adoption and highlighted opportunities to improve gas capture as part of broader efforts to address climate change.
