From Webinar to Wollert to Brisbane: A week with Sniffer Robotics

Some weeks are busy. Others are absolutely packed.

Our recent week with the Sniffer Robotics team definitely fell into the second category. With Bill Tennant and Meg Owens joining us from Sniffer Robotics, we hit the ground running with a week combining technical discussions, customer engagement, hands-on training, a live landfill demonstration and plenty of time talking methane monitoring.

We kicked things off with a webinar exploring the future of methane monitoring and how emerging technologies are changing the way landfill operators can detect, quantify and understand methane emissions.

With Bill bringing Sniffer Robotics’ experience to the conversation and the HydroTerra team sharing our local knowledge, the session was a great opportunity to move beyond the technology itself and talk about the practical challenges operators face in the field.

And that theme continued throughout the week.

Following the webinar, Bill and Richard Campbell hit the road for visits with environmental consultants, giving us the opportunity to have more detailed conversations about methane monitoring, site challenges and where new approaches can complement existing monitoring programs.

Dedicated team training gave HydroTerra staff the chance to build their knowledge of Sniffer Robotics technology, ask the technical questions that inevitably come up in the field and strengthen our ability to support Australian customers locally.

For us, that’s an important part of introducing new technology to the market. It isn’t simply about supplying equipment or a service. It’s about understanding how it works, where it delivers value and how it can be practically applied to real sites.

Putting the technology to work at Wollert Landfill

One of the biggest highlights of the week was our live demonstration day at Wollert Landfill.

Rather than simply talking about the technology in a presentation, attendees were able to see methane monitoring demonstrated in a real landfill environment and discuss the application directly with the people behind it.

It was fantastic to welcome representatives from city councils, waste management companies, landfill operators, environmental professionals and the oil and gas production sector.

Bringing such a diverse group together made for some valuable conversations, not only about landfill methane but also about the broader challenge of finding safer, smarter and more effective ways to collect emissions data.

Next stop: Brisbane

With barely time to catch our breath, the week continued north to Brisbane for the WMRR Landfill and Transfer Stations Conference, where HydroTerra and Sniffer Robotics continued the conversation with the waste and resource recovery industry.

After a week of webinars, consultant visits, training and live demonstrations, the conference was a fitting way to bring everything together and continue discussing the future of methane monitoring with the people managing these challenges every day.

And it wasn’t all work…

Team dinner with Bill and Meg

Somehow, amongst the packed schedule, we even managed to squeeze in a team dinner and show Bill and Meg a few of Victoria’s beautiful lesser-known spots.

Because when you’ve travelled all the way to Australia, it would be rude to let you see only meeting rooms, landfills and conference booths.

A partnership built around knowledge sharing

What stood out most across the week wasn’t any one event. It was the opportunity to bring people together.

From a webinar audience to our own HydroTerra team, environmental consultants, landfill operators, councils and other industries managing methane emissions, every stop created another opportunity to share knowledge and explore how technology can help tackle real monitoring challenges.

Thank you to Bill Tennant, Meg Owens and the Sniffer Robotics team and a huge thankyou to the team at Wollert Landfill, James Downs and Evan Kyriakopoulos for hosting us and everyone who joined our webinar, welcomed us for meetings, attended the Wollert demonstration day and stopped by for a conversation at WMRR.

It was a big week, but a very rewarding one.

And we’re only getting started.
