Geolux HydroTemp Water Temperature Sensor

The Geolux HydroTemp is a scientific-grade digital temperature sensor designed for precise, high-resolution monitoring of water, soil, and liquid temperatures across diverse environments, including aquifers, coastal ecosystems, agricultural systems, and climate-change research sites.

Key product features include:

Scientific-grade accuracy
Measures water, liquid, or soil temperature
Single temperature sensor and multi-depth version with up to 16 sensors
Low power consumption
RS-485 Modbus, SDI-12, and RS-232 interface available on all instruments

Application to Groundwater Monitoring

Why would the HydroTemp be used for groundwater?  Understanding groundwater systems is vital for ensuring sustainable water management, particularly in regions prone to drought or over-extraction. Groundwater plays a key role in maintaining freshwater ecosystems and supporting agriculture, but its dynamics are often hidden beneath the surface, making it difficult to monitor. With the HydroTemp, environmental scientists can map temperature variations in aquifers, which can reveal critical information about water movement, recharge rates and the interaction between surface water and groundwater. The HydroTemp’s ability to measure temperatures at multiple depths (up to 16 sensors on a single line) and its scientific-grade absolute accuracy of 0.1°C enable researchers to create detailed temperature profiles of aquifers. These can be used to track changes over time, such as how much groundwater is being replenished by rainfall or how extraction is affecting the water table. The sensor’s robust construction, including a Kevlar-reinforced, neutral-buoyancy cable, ensures it can withstand the harsh conditions typically encountered during long-term groundwater monitoring.
