HydroTerra has made a strategic decision to extend our monitoring services to include drone based platforms. The reason? Spatial data sets that can be collected with drones compliment our spot measurement and continuous data sets, allowing better understanding and quantification of emissions from facilities.
A particular focus is the waste sector, utilising drone technology to evaluate fugitive methane emissions from treatment facilities and landfills. Drone technology allows us to quantify facility-wide emissions, locate leaks in critical infrastructure, and forecast gas collection performance.

Having been leaders in innovation of landfill monitoring with continuous leachate and landfill gas monitoring solutions, we are now offering drone based fugitive emissions monitoring services. To this end, HydroTerra is excited to welcome our newest technology partner, Sniffer Robotics, to Australia. for a series of training sessions, customer demonstrations, and industry events.
Why have we chosen to partner with Sniffer?
Well, it’s a combination of regulatory approvals for their methods and on the ground experience. SnifferDRONE is the only automated methodology approved by the U.S. EPA and Environment and Climate Change Canada (OTM-51). They have a strong track record of existing projects across several countries for a range of applications including:
- landfill surface emissions monitoring (SEM),
- methane emissions studies and
- biogas methane detection.
Travelling from the United States, the Sniffer Robotics team will be up and running in Australia from 12 – 24th October. While here, they will spend time working closely with HydroTerra staff and customers, showcasing the innovative drone technology that is transforming landfill monitoring and emissions management around the world.
A key focus of the visit will be hands-on training for HydroTerra’s technical team, equipping staff with the skills required to safely operate drones and conduct advanced landfill gas sampling surveys. The training will further strengthen HydroTerra’s capability to deliver cutting-edge drone-based monitoring services across Australia.
The visit includes a customer roadshow, providing an opportunity for organisations to see the technology in action and learn how drone-based sampling can improve the efficiency, safety, and quality of environmental monitoring programs. The highlight will be a live demonstration flight at one of Melbourne’s largest landfill facilities, where attendees will see firsthand how the technology can rapidly collect valuable environmental data from areas that are often difficult to access using traditional monitoring methods.

The journey doesn’t stop in Melbourne. HydroTerra and Sniffer Robotics will also travel to Cairns to attend the Waste Management and Resource Recovery Association of Australia (WMRR) Conference, where they will connect with industry leaders and discuss the growing role of advanced monitoring technologies in supporting safer, smarter and more sustainable waste management practices.
This visit marks an exciting milestone in HydroTerra’s partnership with Sniffer Robotics and reinforces our commitment to bringing innovative environmental monitoring solutions to Australian customers.
If you would like the opportunity to meet with Sniffer while they are here, or would like to attend the live demonstration flight at the landfill, please reach out.
