The Sentek SoluSAMPLER™ is a suction lysimeter designed to extract soil water samples from specific depths for analysis of salt and nutrient levels in the root zone. It operates by applying a vacuum to draw moisture into a custom ceramic cup, which holds the solution until it can be collected using a syringe.

SoluSAMPLER™ units are available with low or high flow ceramic cups to suit various soil types and conditions. They are commonly used in applications including irrigated and dryland cropping, vineyards, tree crops, environmental monitoring, and research projects.

Collected samples can be analysed in the field using nitrate test strips or EC meters or sent to a laboratory for more detailed analysis. The device can also be used in conjunction with Sentek’s TriSCAN™ probes, allowing for more comprehensive soil monitoring.

HydroTerra developed a controlled testing method to extract PFAS free samples from SoluSAMPLE’s in deionised water (DI water). SoluSAMPLER’s were first decontaminated by submerging and washing in a Liquinox® solution before rinsing in tap water then DI water. Each SoluSAMPLE was placed in DI water containers with a vacuum applied to facilitate water uptake. Samples were collected after a week and sent for low-level PFAS analysis.

Results indicate that the units are free from PFAS following a decontamination procedure, reducing concerns about introducing contaminants during sampling.
