They’re not all bad: Acid Sulfate Soil – measurement and management
Presenters:
Whilst heavily regulated in many jurisdictions, acid sulfate soils remain a mystery to many who come across them, a fact which has been exacerbated by ‘recipe’ driven measurement and management resulting in sub-optimal outcomes (usually over-application of lime at considerable expense). A real challenge for soil scientists is therefore ensuring not only that accurate measurements are taken, but that these are interpreted correctly to ensure a beneficial outcome (financial as well as environmental).
This webinar focuses on the importance of good data collection and interpretation to allow management strategies to be developed to preserve soil and wider environmental health (especially adjacent waterways). The following areas will be discussed:
- Analytical methodologies for soil and water sampling that should be adopted, and interpretation thereof.
- Development of the conceptual site model based on soil, geological and hydrogeological data collected (desktop, field, bench-top and laboratory).
- Refinement of management measures based on bench and field scale weathering
