AquaWatch Australia: near-real time water quality monitoring and forecasts at national scale

In this webinar, we heard from CSIRO scientists on their AquaWatch Australia Mission to create a ‘weather service’ for water quality. The national service is being developed to provide near-real time water quality updates and early warning forecasts to help safeguard inland and coastal waters.

We learnt – What the AquaWatch system is and how it works, the intended impacts of AquaWatch for the environment, industry and communities, how water-based sensors and satellite imagery are providing water quality data and how CSIRO is applying machine learning and environmental models to develop predictive forecasts.
