Single-use plastics ban
Progress to reduce plastic waste and contamination of our food, water and wildlife continues across the country with a ban on a range of single-use plastic items coming into effect in Victoria from next week – 1 February. Victoria joins most other Australian states and territories that have now largely, or wholly banned the seven priority items on Australia’s national packaging targets within the National Waste Policy Action Plan. These are plastic drinking straws, drink stirrers, cutlery, plates, cotton buds, foodware and cups made from expanded polystyrene.
