Smarter sensing for the Stygo range: reliable water level monitoring with HydroTerra’s New Barometric Reference module
26 June 2025
Our Stygo 1 and 3 systems previously relied on atmospherically vented pressure sensors for pressure-compensated water level measurements. However, vented sensors are vulnerable to water ingress if the vent becomes wet or submerged, posing a risk to reliability, particularly in floating level applications.
While HydroTerra continues to offer a wide selection of both vented and non-vented sensors to meet diverse requirements, it’s become increasingly clear that non-vented options are more suitable for our Stygo range.
To address this, our in-house Electronics Engineer, Julian Hirniak, has developed a Barometric Reference module compatible with all Stygo 1 and 3 models. This module delivers accurate real-time atmospheric pressure data and enables onboard barometric compensation when used with select non-vented sensors. It supports universal integration via the Modbus® RTU protocol and delivers an accuracy of ±0.5 hPa (approximately ±5 mm at 20°C).
