Rising Stage Sampler
The Rising Stage Sampler (RSS) is designed to capture high-quality suspended sediment samples coarser than 62 µm during rapidly rising flows, triggered by storms and runoff events. RSS eliminates the need for constant field presence, dramatically reducing labour costs and making it an ideal choice for remote, rugged, or hard-to-access monitoring sites.
The RSS automatically collects discrete samples as stream stage increases. Its robust construction ensures long-term durability, while its simple, intuitive design allows for quick installation and minimal maintenance. With multiple sample container sizes available (1L, 2.5L, and 4L), along with flexible mounting configurations, the RSS adapts easily to a range of site conditions.
The slightly downward-angled horizontal intake minimizes sediment buildup and reduces the risk of clogging. As water levels rise and reach the intake, the sampler activates automatically, filling the container until the air exhaust tube is reached. At that point, sampling stops, forming an air lock that prevents additional water movement. This ensures each sample is free from contamination caused by later fluctuations in flow.
