What a fantastic start to our 2026 Webinar Series, it was great to see so many people keen to learn from one of the experts in PFAS management. Thank you Dr Matthew Askeland for joining us and kick starting our webinar series.

The key takeaways from Matthew’s presentation are outlined here.

• Not all PFAS issues require the same response – remediation should be proportional and focused on achieving meaningful risk reduction.
• PFAS management is often driven by concentration, but high concentrations do not always equate to high environmental or human-health risk.
• The cost of PFAS remediation can be vastly disproportionate to the value of the PFAS mass being treated, raising questions about value for money.
• PFAS risks should be assessed in context, alongside other contaminants, environmental risks, health impacts and competing priorities.
• Limited resources mean PFAS management must prioritise where effort delivers the greatest benefit and avoid diminishing returns.
• Better, site-specific data reduces uncertainty and enables more targeted, confident decision-making.
• Clear, measurable objectives are essential to avoid spending on actions that do not deliver real compliance or risk reduction.
• Tools and frameworks that link objectives, testing, implementation and validation help ensure outcomes are effective and defensible.
• Overall, the session reinforced a shift toward value-driven PFAS management—focusing effort where it matters most, using robust evidence to guide decisions, and ensuring that remediation delivers meaningful and measurable outcomes.
