We’re excited to Welcome Dr. Annette Nolan to the HydroTerra team as our new Technical Director.
Annette brings over 25 years of experience in environmental chemistry and has worked across a broad range of areas—from environmental consulting and remediation contracting to research and analytical chemistry.
She has led some major high-profile projects focused on investigating and mitigating contaminated land and groundwater across Australia and has been at the forefront in sustainable and innovative remediation solutions. A strong focus has been on hazardous waste treatment, including emerging contaminants such as PFAS, heavy metals and gasworks waste.
Annette holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) and a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Newcastle. Her dedication to advancing the field has been widely recognised, including being awarded Honorary Lifetime Membership of the Australasian Land and Groundwater Association (ALGA) in 2021, following nearly a decade of active involvement.
In addition to her impressive technical background, Annette brings a clear passion for sustainability and environmental responsibility. She is a strong advocate for reducing waste, consuming mindfully, and treading more lightly on the planet—values that resonate well with HydroTerra’s mission.
“I’m passionate about minimising the footprint we leave on the environment,” says Annette. “There is no Plan B—no Planet B. We all have a role to play in reducing our impact.”
When she’s not driving innovation in environmental science, Annette finds balance in simple pleasures like sunrise walks and coffee along Newcastle’s Bathers Way—a reminder of the natural beauty we’re all working to protect.
Looking ahead, Annette is keen to continue her work on emerging contaminants like PFAS. “These substances remain one of the most pressing environmental issues of our time. Banning them—and ensuring we don’t replace them with equally hazardous alternatives—is critical to safeguarding both human health and ecosystems.”
We are fortunate to gain a leader with Annette’s experience and look forward to the insights and leadership she’ll bring as HydroTerra continues to grow and innovate in environmental monitoring solutions.
