The river red gum

The river red gum has been voted Australia’s favourite native tree! As reported in HydroTerra’s last newsletter, the ABC recently ran the online poll, which included three rounds of voting by the public. The iconic river red gum trumped the likes of the snow gum, ghost gum and even Australia’s national emblem, the golden wattle. The subject of HydroTerra’s current Melbourne Zoo monitoring program, the Moreton Bay Fig, came in a respectable fourth and the first of the “non-gum” trees.
