Cox Colvin – Vapor Pins always evolving to meet market needs.
In addition to the standard Brass and Stainless-Steel Vapor Pins, Cox Colvin continue to develop new options to cover evolving customer needs. The need for devices that offer flexible connections to facilitate speedy operation in the field is something that Cox Colvin has taken on-board.
Consider their FLX Vapor Pin for example. The FLX-VP is an easy to install sub-slab sampling device that offers interchangeable sampling connections for it to be flexible when conducting investigations. The Flex-VP can be used with a wide variety of sample collection methods and can be paired with evacuated stainless-steel canisters (Summa), tube samplers, Tedlar bags, Bottle-Vacs, and many more devices. The FLX-VP comes standard with a barb fitting device equipped with an O-Ring to ensure a proper seal. A swage lock connection is also available for the FLX-VP as is a male quick-connect fitting.
Again, feedback from the market was the driver for the Mini Vapor Pin. It was found that in some applications including domestic residences (looking at Radon Gas), the slabs were thinner, and a shorter Vapor Pin was required. Some slabs can be as thin as 50mm and not suitable for the standard Vapor Pins. The Mini Vapor Pin was developed. This is a short version of the Vapor Pin with the added flexibility that it can support many different types on interconnections, similar to the FLX-VP. The Mini-Vapor Pin is also supplied as a complete kit including the pin, secure cover, silicone sleeve and a barb fitting.
Another recent development involving Cox Colvin and SiREM is the Waterloo Membrane Sampler™ – Vapor Pin® (WMSTM-VP). The Waterloo Membrane Sampler™ (WMS™) is a passive permeation sampler for quantitatively measuring time-weighted average concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in soil gas.
Commercially available since 2010, the WMS™ incorporates a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) membrane across the face of WMS-VP – Waterloo Membrane Sampler – Vapor Pina vial filled with a sorbent medium. The WMS™-Vapor Pin (WMS™-VP) is specifically designed to fit with the Vapor Pin® sampling device for quantitative VOC sampling in the sub-slab. This means Vapor Pins are available for passive sampling and one key application is in sewer gas headspace sampling.
