Solinst – New bladder Pump Design, how they make your life easier!
In our August Newsletter, we introduced the range of new Bladder Pumps from Solinst. As this is quite an exciting development, we are following up with some further details.
What are the key benefits of the new design? How will they make your life easier?
One key benefit is being able to easily and quickly replace the bladder in the field without having to use any tools. The bladder is now in the form of a cartridge that can be swapped out quickly in the new pump design. The bladder pumps themselves have also been simplified and this is now reflected in the lower price for Bladder Pumps. This is another key benefit for customers.
What is interesting about the new Bladder?
The new bladders are made from a material called Santoprene®. Samtoprene® TPV (Thermoplastic Vulcanizates) is a ready-to-use material that behaves like a rubber, but processed like a thermoplastic, Santoprene® TPV is proven solution serving markets as diversified and demanding as automotive, medical, building and construction, and consumer products. This offers the following benefits in Bladder Pumps:
- Inert properties make them suitable for harsh environments as well as potable water applications.
- Resistant to various chemicals, including acids, bases, and petroleum products
- Can withstand extreme temperatures and abrasion
- Flexible and resilient, making them ideal for repeated use
- Provides better sampling rates compared to previous bladder design
- The material is recyclable
Suggested sampling methodology
If you are using the bladder pump for numerous wells and have to decontaminate the pumps, between wells, then a practical sampling methodology is to have 2 bladder cartridges. One cartridge would be in the pump, and one being cleaned and then swap them over at the next location. The replacement process for the bladder cartridge is quick and easy and can happen when decontaminating the outside of the pump body/ intake.
What to do with your existing bladder pumps (Mk1 versions)?
The good news here is that the new Bladder cartridge is compatible with the older style Mk1 Bladder Pumps. All you need to do is remove all parts inside the Mk1 407 Bladder Pump (i.e. bladder sleeve, bladder, center rod, bottom and top retainers, keep the check balls, and replace with Mk2 Cartridge). This will convert the Mk1 407 pump into a Mk2 407 Bladder Pump.
