Introduction
05 September 2024Innovation and commercialization: In the field of environmental monitoring and telemetry I’m excited to report that Australia seems to be spluttering to life. As HydroTerra continues to expand our market place of monitoring technologies it’s starting to become clear that whilst we may have lost some of our “clever country” mojo, there are many signs that we have a growing competency and belief that we can take our university and research developed IP and actually develop a manufactured product. Of course, it’s possible, that I have a skewed view of the world having recently been involved with some really interesting work that our very own CSIRO has developed in the world of sensing, then seen a successful commercialized product originally derived from University of Tasmania. Between that and the range of new telemetry options being generated on our shores from Unidata, EWS and Myriota amongst others. The second epiphany for the month: we seem to be getting better at knowledge sharing. HydroTerra is excited to be involved with the Australian Hydrographers Association in their inaugural 2024 Water Monitoring Skills Technical Workshop and last week collaborated with RMIT for a field day and training to a team of emerging environmental engineers. I feel it’s worth believing that Australia can do great things in this field of monitoring innovation, if we work together.
