Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a group of man-made chemicals that have been widely used in various industries due to their resistance to water, oil, and heat. However, PFAS are known to be persistent in the environment and human body, leading to potential adverse health effects.

Recognizing the importance of addressing this issue, our key supplier Solinst has proactively eliminated PFAS from their product lines, demonstrating their commitment to both environmental protection and public health.

As far back as 2020 Solinst President at the time Jim Pianosi stated that “Solinst Canada Ltd hereby certifies that PFAS is not use, or knowingly present in the manufacture, or production of our Products.”

Solinst’s PFAS-free products include a range of innovative solutions such as the full range of water level meters, dataloggers, and sampling pumps. We take a look at some of these PFAS free products below

The wetted materials for the Levelogger 5 are: corrosion-resistant PTFE coating baked-on using polymerization technology, acetal/Delrin® nose cone, filter and top cap, 316L SS, Hastelloy pressure sensor, and a Viton® o-ring. The Levelogger 5 LTC also includes: An acetal conductivity cell and Platinum clad Niobium core wires.

The Model 407, has a bladder does not allow any air to contact the sample water, as such, representative samples are always obtained. PFAS-free Santoprene® bladders are standard and are ideal for longterm, dedicated use. The easy-to-replace bladder cartridges also make them convenient for short-term or one-time use applications.

The Model 429 Point-Source Bailer is ideal for obtaining high quality, representative “grab” samples of groundwater from specific depths. Sampling can be done without purging.

The Point-Source Bailer is stainless steel with PFAS-free PTFE check balls. It comes in 0.5, 1, 1.5, or 2″ (12.7, 24.5, 38.1, or 50.8 mm) diameters, and 2, 3, or 4 ft. (61, 91, or 122 cm) lengths.

It can be used in an open borehole or screened well, providing a simple, cost-effective device for aquifer profiling. Because there are check balls at the top and bottom of the bailer, minimum water enters the sampler during retrieval. The 0.5″ (12.7 mm) OD miniature model is made for use in narrow tubes and direct push devices.

Furthermore Solinst’s CMT (Continuous Multilevel Tubing) System is proven & Effective for PFAS monitoring.  It provides the most accurate 3-D assessment of a PFAS site.  It is vital to understanding vertical PFAS contaminant transport and allows documentation of changes in the concentration and delineation of PFAS contaminant plumes.  This method is low cost compared to multiple individual wells and minimizes site disturbance.

HydroTerra also supply many other PFAS Free Sampling consumables, including
