Using drones to detect fugitive methane emissions
Presenters:
Drones are reshaping environmental monitoring. Traditional walkover and drive-over surveys for fugitive methane at landfills, oil & gas facilities and mines are rapidly becoming obsolete. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) enable rapid, precise surveys of extensive sites, including hard-to-access or hazardous zones. They deliver accurate georeferenced measurements, reduce health and safety risks, and strengthen reporting for the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Scheme (NGERS). This presentation follows Terra Sana Consultants’ innovation journey, successes and lessons learned. It refers to a decade of surveys to show where and why aerial methods outperform ground techniques, and how better detection translates into practical abatement and measurable Greenhouse Gas reductions, one flight at a time!
