Recently, the United Nations declared pollution the third global catastrophe. It’s a hot topic and two events this month by friends of HydroTerra have helped continue the discussion on the array of contributing factors and possible solutions.

Working together on PFAS

Australasian Land and Groundwater Association (ALGA) held a workshop in collaboration with Interstate Technology and Regulatory Council (ITRC) titled ‘Working together on PFAS’. Regulation, remediation approaches and Aqueous Film Forming Foams (AFFF) were discussed by a panel of experts from both Australia and America. It’s super interesting to hear about where we’re at with PFAS and the differences between what’s happening here and in the USA. With only three types of PFAS regulated here in Australia, there’s a long way to go. However, there are some different technologies being trialled in terms of remediation. Talking pollution

The Centre for Anthropogenic Pollution Impact and Management (CAPIM) held their first “Let’s talk pollution” online panel series earlier this month where experts, including Prof. Mark Taylor (EPA), Jacqueline Frizenschaf (Water Research Australia), Jen Martin (Arcadia), Assoc. Prof. Suzie Reichman (CAPIM) and Dr. Anthony Boxshall (University of Melbourne) discussed what the United Nations declaration on pollution means for Australia in terms of prioritising and managing pollution.
