Welcome 2022
18 January 2022Welcome back everybody! I hope you all had a great holiday.
Like most of us, I was expecting COVID to be behind us and full steam ahead, but we are finding this a challenge with longer term ramifications for us to adjust to—skill shortages being a big one.
In a similar way, looking at the environment, we are seeing more and more awareness of a deteriorating environment, particularly catchment scale impacts, pollution, wide-spread loss of habitat and threatened species. Industry is responding but we need more skilled practitioners.
What gives me hope is humanity’s ability to adapt. Science gives us the methods and technologies to undo the problems we have created and mitigate apparent issues. Policy makers provide the frameworks to collaborate.
This year, I’m looking forward to seeing how HydroTerra’s broad suite of technologies will be applied to reduce environmental impacts and improve productivity. The new Victorian Environment Protection Act (2017), when implemented, provides a fantastic opportunity to really drive transformation to reduce industrial pollution. Such transformation requires the adoption of technologies, which means we need skilled practitioners to implement the technological solutions. HydroTerra has become adept at training and building capacity in technology support, and we look forward to helping the industry.
All the best for a great year in 2022!
Richard
