Beacon’s Passive Soil Gas Samplers put to use

25 January 2024

Let’s take a look at how Beacon Passive Soil Gas Samplers were used in an investigation of contaminant sources in 5 different areas of interest (AOIs).

Previous state investigations identified the presence of tetrachloroethene (PCE) at concentrations above the EPA maximum contaminant level (MCL) in private wells. When the site was listed on the Non-Priorities List (NPL), no contaminant source areas had been identified, which necessitated further investigative activities.

The EPA then conducted an investigation which identified five AOIs that may have contributed to the PCE and trichloroethene (TCE) found in the private wells. Beacon Passive Soil Gas Samplers were collected at each of the five AOIs to characterize the sites for source areas and prioritize them.

This case study from Beacon Environmental describes the results from an investigation of AOI 2, which is an active dry cleaner and automotive repair facility. For a full version of the case study, click here.
