Overcoming post-pandemic challenges
18 March 2022The pandemic seems almost behind us.
For many business operators however, the challenges now are even more severe than during lockdown. Missing links in supply lines for componentry, long freight timeframes, staff shortages and rising costs create a unique set of issues for environmental monitoring, and many other industries.
There’s no doubt that the ability of suppliers to maintain quality while in semi-lockdown has been tested. Even the best monitoring equipment suppliers in the world, many of which we represent, are currently being challenged, with long lead times being a notable symptom.
During these times, the role of distributor and technology integrator has become more valuable. There is a need for greater levels of support, finding alternative solutions, increased efficiencies with warranty claims, more temporary equipment to bridge delays, larger stock volumes, and larger rental fleets of equipment that may be in short supply. HydroTerra has endeavoured to increase our rental fleet to a level that can meet the short fall caused by supply line delays, with investment particularly in the areas of water quality and groundwater monitoring instrumentation.
Some regions have been hit harder than others. We have found that North America has had the largest delays. Groundwater and water quality equipment companies out of the United Kingdom and Canada have been better able to deliver than their US counterparts who, in some instances, are quoting up to four-month delivery timeframes.
Our strategy during these times is to assist our customers by:
- Evaluating monitoring technology options through availability, lead time, functionality and price
- Minimising lead times by using our rental fleet as a bridging mechanism to help meet monitoring program need
- Increasing stock levels of key product lines
We appreciate these are challenging times for everyone and hope these measures make life a little more manageable for our customers.
