Introduction
16 May 2024This month has been a lot of fun, visiting the US and Canada looking at advances in monitoring technologies. It is impressive to see the latest developments. There is nothing quite like meeting and touring a suppliers factory to get a real sense of how well they operate. Canada is a small country with a similar background to Australia, their ability to innovate and manufacture in the sensing and sampling areas is impressive. I had not visited Solinst since 2015 and was very impressed with the advances in dip tape measurement manufacture and levelogger testing regimes. Solinst have progressively brought more and more technologies in house which has lead to a significant increase in factory production. Companies like Waterra and Exact Blue continue to drive innovation. However, I feel we sometimes forget about our own home grown success stories. Australia is a true leader in integrating sensors with telemetry, companies such as Unidata, EWS, Sentek, Myriota and our own Yabby’s and Stygos are all home grown success stories. There is no doubt the world of measurement is changing, it is exciting to be a part of the industry during such a dynamic phase.
